UPPER SIXES RIVER

17 March 2007 Saturday 1000 UPPER SIXES RIVER Class 2
Trip Notes:  Meet either at the Paradise Cafe in Port Orford at 0900 for breakfast or at the Edson Creek Boat Launch (4 miles east of 101 on the north bank road) at 1000.  We will paddle the Upper Sixes.  Wetsuits are advised.  Helmets would not be wrong.  Short boats are strongly advised (14' max, preferably less).
Final Tally:  4 paddlers had a leisurely trip from the bridge to the Edson Campground take-out.  We did not put-in at the BLM campground because it appeared that there was not enough water.  It was pretty skinny...but real nice.

Nearest City:

Port Orford, Oregon

Class:

2
The Upper Sixes runs from the Sixes River Campground to the Edson Campground.  This part of the river is flowing down thru the coastal range so is more technical than the Lower Sixes.  Parts of the river are constricted.  Paddlers must be able to control their boat.

After completing this beautiful section of the river we are always a bit tired, pleased, refreshed.  This section cannot be paddled in the summer due to low water.  Of all of the water that we paddle on the coast this Upper Sixes section is one of the more difficult.

Wetsuits are advised.  Lifejackets are a must.  Longer boats (14'+) could have a bit of difficulty.  Shorter boats (10') would certainly be appropriate.

Shuttle Note (5 February 2006):  If you need a shuttle call J&K Shuttle, 541-332-0319 or email jkshuttle2006@msn.com.  J&K offers shuttle service on the Elk and Sixes Rivers.

4 December 2005 Sunday 0900 Upper Sixes River details
Trip notes:  This was a fun trip. 6 paddlers including one in a canoe.  The water was up.  A few capsizes.  Lots of beauty.  A wonderful trip.

Paddling toward the ocean on the Silt-Coos Kayak Canoe Trail. About 4 miles south of Florence, Oregon.
